Please read my testimony!

Dear Future RN’s,

Please read my testimony! It will bless and encourage you. I FINALLY passed the NCLEX. H-a-l-l-e-l-u-j-a-h! I graduated from the University of Phoenix Class of 2012. Yes, you read that right, 2012. It has been 8 years of attempts and failures. To date, I have taken the NCLEX 5 times. My final test date was 1/31/2020. I received the full exam, 265 and it took about 4 hours to complete. I was happy to receive the full exam. I knew receiving the full exam (in my mind) gave me a fighting chance to prove my competency. Especially since I failed in the past. I believe UWORLD did mimic the NCLEX. I can only say this because I completed every question in UWORLD and I really digested the rationales. I felt indifferent during the exam. I did not know if I was passing or failing. There were topics on the exam that I’ve never even heard of. I remained calm. I stopped and prayed throughout and I maintained my faith in God.
- 1st Test Prep: Kaplan and ATI (failed w/ 120 questions)
- 2nd Test Prep: Hurst in person course (failed w/ 86 questions)
- 3rd Test Prep: NCSBN question bank (failed w/ 76 questions)
- 4th Test Prep: NCSBN question bank (failed w/ 95 questions)
- 5th Test Prep: Passed with 265 questions.
1. UWORLD –I purchased the 6-month subscription. I completed 75 questions each day. I did all the questions and even made custom exams for SATA questions only. Anytime I got a SATA question, I wrote down the question number and saved it. I then went into “Create Exam” and chose “custom” to create SATA quizzes. It helped me greatly! I only took the first assessment and I BOMBED it. Getting a “borderline” rating. I reviewed every test I took. I created and completed 100 test in UWorld.
2. Remar Quick Facts Book (I literally voice recorded the entire book on a voice memo on my IPhone and listened to it any chance I got. In the car, at work, at home.
*I’m unable to share the voice recordings I’ve made from the Remar book but I did purchase the book from Amazon for $19. Regina M. Callion MSN RN: The ReMar Review Quick Facts for NCLEX
3. 35 pager (this is a gold mind) don’t sleep on this. This has been around for YEARS. I had access to this during my first NCLEX Exam (8 years ago) and I did not think it was important or accurate. I was WRONG!!!! I read this over and over again during my final study week. Info on here, was in my exam. It can be found an this page under "files" section.
4. Mark K. lectures (helped immensely with priority questions and Mark gave me confidence.
I had given up on my dreams and aspirations after so many failures. You see, University of Phoenix never prepared me to be successful on the NCLEX. They only taught me how to pass each course. What I realized, I was missing the basic foundational content but also test strategies. Each time I failed, I literally just gave up. I would tell myself I wasn’t good enough or smart enough. That went on for eight years. I was diagnosed with depression and started taking medication this past summer. Let me tell you, the medication helped me to untangle the way my brain was processing information. I had the content in there, I was just unable to articulate and analyze my way through nursing concepts. I got back into church. I put God as the head of my life. I silenced distractions even separating from my husband. I put 17 years into everyone else and I had nothing to show for it. I started attending church more. I started praying more. I started fasting from Facebook, then meat, then sweets, then soda. I made a vision board. I wrote huge prayers on my wall. I took out my graduation picture and I hung it on my wall in my bedroom and I started to walk around the house saying “I am a Registered Nurse.” Even when I would read the questions in UWorld, I would replace “the nurse” in each question with my name. So I would say, Nurse Lora. This nailed into my head and willed within my spirit that I am a Registered Nurse. I am a Safe Nurse. I am a knowledgeable Nurse. Dammit, I’m a professional nurse with a NURSING DEGREE. I can and I will defeat this NCLEX. I worked 6 days a week throughout my prep and I have a son who had soccer, football or tutoring each day. My time to study was very limited. I did not tell a living soul that I was studying again for the test. I did not want to disappoint anyone especially myself. I kept my lips zipped. I knew this time around was for me to see a move of God.

Those of you thinking, you’re not smart enough, you don’t have the skills, abilities, knowledge, understanding. STOP IT! It is there. I only received “Borderline” results on UWORLD. Ranking in the 24th percentile. I got more questions wrongs than I did right. Use me as a LIVING TESTIMONY. You can do it! Put God at the head of your life and let him take control. Make a study plan and stick with it.
